Yamakawa Nijika, employed at a food company, grew weary of the unreasonable treatment at work and her struggles with her job, spending her days suppressing her true self. One day, she was dispatched to a children's cafeteria, where she met Sato Sui, a precocious elementary school pupil who frequented the place.

Though initially bewildered by Sui's persistent attentiveness, she gradually opens up and becomes more candid towards this peculiar girl who, for some reason, offers sharp critiques in samurai-style speech.

The story begins when the protagonist, Shinjo Masamune, attempts to kidnap Nanase Rin, the daughter of a wealthy hospital director, at the suggestion of his wife, in order to secure the money for their daughter's surgery, who has heart disease. He hesitates to the very end, but is urged on by his wife, who remotely controls the car over the phone, and somehow manages to get close to the director's house, when a girl jumps out in front of Shinjo's car. Just when he narrowly avoids an accident by braking suddenly, the girl faints and collapses. That girl is none other than Rin, the target of the kidnapping.

Shinjo is taken aback by how easily the kidnapping succeeds, but when Rin wakes up, she has lost her memory. Shinjo quickly lies and says he is the father, and is forced to play the role of father from then on. However, shortly afterwards, Rin's parents, the hospital director and his wife, are murdered by an unknown assailant. Shinjo is now a suspect in the murders and finds himself in a desperate situation, but it turns out that the kidnapped Rin is a child genius who speaks multiple languages, is knowledgeable, and has sharp ideas. The two find themselves in a reversal of roles, with Shinjo criticizing the head of the team and Rin for being strong-willed, but also getting advice on how to get out of this situation. Pursued not only by the police but also by unidentified men who are after Rin for some reason, the story depicts the unusual escape of Shinjo and Rin, who share a common destiny.
